1914 und weitere Frontberichte: In der neuen Legacy-Ausgabe #159 wird ein Thema in den Fokus genommen, das schwerer wiegt als jede Gitarrenwand. Die Titelstory mit anschließendem Special (16 Seiten) beleuchtet den Krieg – nicht abstrakt, sondern gerade auch durch die Stimmen derer, die ihm ausgesetzt sind. Im Fokus steht ein großes, eindringliches Interview mit Dmytro Kumar von der Black-/Death-/Doom-Fraktion 1914: Er spricht über das kreative Schaffen im Ausnahmezustand, über Nächte mit Luftalarm, über Stromausfälle, Zähigkeit und Hoffnung – und natürlich über das neue 1914-Album, das im Soundcheck direkt auf Platz 2 landet. Flankiert wird das Dossier von einem ausführlichen Gespräch mit Jérôme Reuter (Rome), der seit Beginn des russischen Angriffskriegs Stellung bezieht, vor Ort in der Ukraine live spielt und regelmäßig spendet – und dazu gleich zwei neue Alben am Start hat. Dazu reflektieren wir mit Marduk 35 Jahre „Panzer Division“ und das ewige Provozieren mit dem Kriegsthema: keine Romantisierung, keine Heroisierung – nur die schonungslose Betrachtung der „Bestie Mensch“ im Kriegszustand. Ergänzend kommen weitere Stimmen aus der Szene und der Ukraine zu Wort: Endstille, Hail Of Bullets, Waidelotte, White Ward und Khors.

Der Legacy-Soundcheck-Sieg gehört dieses Mal dem 16. Blut-aus-Nord-Album, das somit ebenfalls mit einer umfangreichen Story gewürdigt wird – tiefschwarz, experimentell, verstörend schön. Auch sonst hat der Jahresabschluss wieder einiges an spannenden Veröffentlichungen zu bieten: Cemican verknüpfen auf wilde, herausfordernde Weise Maya-Kultur mit Metal. Lord Of The Lost öffnen für Teil zwei ihrer „Opvs Noir“-Trilogie die Archive – Chris Harms im ausführlichen Gespräch. Creeper katapultieren sich mit der wundervollen „Mistress Of Death“ (Platz 4 im Soundcheck) ins Rampenlicht, und William von Ghould liefert ein Interview, das so schillernd ist wie das Album. Außerdem war das Legacy als Trio in Erfurt beim Eisregen-Heimatfest zum 30-jährigen Jubiläum vor Ort – ein intensiver Report zwischen Q&A, Tombola, Frühschoppen und endlich wieder live zelebrierter „Krebskolonie“.

Und weil Vorfreude die beste Droge ist, liefert das Legacy selbstredend wieder exklusive Ausblicke: einen ersten düsteren Einblick ins kommende Enthroned-Album sowie einen kleinen Teaser zum nächsten Sagenbringer-Album, das epische Erzählkunst, wuchtige Riffs und feine Melodik zu einem Sagenwerk der Extraklasse verschmilzt. Eine große Story in Ausgabe #160 ist schon geplant.

LEGACY #159:

1914 and other frontline reports: In the new Legacy issue #159, we focus on a topic that weighs heavier than any wall of guitars. The title story, followed by a 16-pages special, sheds light on war – not in the abstract, but through the voices of those directly exposed to it. At the centre stands an in-depth and haunting interview with Dmytro Kumar of the Black/Death/Doom faction 1914. He speaks about creating art under extreme conditions, about nights interrupted by air-raid alarms, power outages, perseverance, and hope – and, of course, about the new 1914 album, which immediately took the second place in our soundcheck. The dossier is complemented by an extensive conversation with Jérôme Reuter (Rome), who has taken a clear stance since the beginning of the Russian invasion, performing live in Ukraine, donating regularly – and, on top of that, releasing two new albums. In addition, we reflect with Marduk on 35 years of “Panzer Division” and the ongoing provocation that comes with the war theme: no romanticizing, no glorification – just an unflinching look at the “beast called man” in a state of war. Further voices from the scene and from Ukraine add their perspectives: Endstille, Hail Of Bullets, Waidelotte, White Ward, and Khors.
