As I Lay Dying, Parkway Drive und Deathcore-Wahnsinn: Trotz der Kontroversen um Tim Lambesis, der auch nach abgesessener Haftstrafe wegen versuchten Auftragsmords polarisiert, liefern As I Lay Dying seit seiner Rückkehr beeindruckende Releases ab – ein guter Grund, den Herren eine Titelstory aus kritischer Perspektive zu widmen. Ein Blick hinter die Kulissen in exklusiven Interviews mit Tim und Phil Sgrosso zeigt eine Band, die 2024 überraschend gefestigt wirkt – so hatte es zumindest den Anschein, bevor die Realität unsere Titelstory quasi überholte und das Bandgefüge Ende Oktober an allen Ecken und Enden auseinanderbröckelte. Fakt ist: Das wird noch spannend – genauso wie das Lesen der Interviews aus einer Zeit von vor wenigen Wochen, als der Himmel noch voller Geigen hing … oder so ähnlich ... 

Bei Parkway Drive ist dagegen alles im Lot: Eine massive Tour für das kommende Jahr verspricht ein spektakuläres Live-Feuerwerk und eine der heißesten Live-Produktionen der gesamten Szene. Die Chance, mit Winston McCall ausführlich sprechen zu können, musste selbstredend wahrgenommen werden. Abgerundet werden diese fetten Modern-Metal-Inhalte von einem Special über den seit einigen Jahren gehypten Deathcore. Eine historische Einordnung (inklusive Erinnerungen an MySpace) sowie Interviews mit Fit For An Autopsy, Bleeding Through, Mental Cruelty und vielen mehr lassen den Leser tief in dieses Phänomen eintauchen.

Selbstverständlich gibt es aber auch genügend Material aus anderen Extreme-Metal-Sparten: Anomalie überzeugen mit ihrem neuen Album „Riverchild“ und Selbstironie. Earthburner gehen aufs Ganze und packen ihre unbändige Energie in ein provokant kurzes 15-Minuten-Album. Währenddessen melden sich The Gates Of Slumber nach langer Pause zurück und enthüllen in einem exklusiven Gespräch ihre Zukunftspläne. Für die düsterste Note sorgen Schädlich & Söhne (mit Yantit von Eisregen), deren Projekt den „Zweckpessimismus“ in einer fatalistischen Story zum Leben erweckt. Und die dreiseitige Co-Titelstory mit den Avantgarde-Black-Metal-Heroen Schammasch darf natürlich nicht unerwähnt bleiben.

Der Soundcheck-Sieg geht dieses Mal ebenfalls an eine kontroverse Entität, nämlich Nachtmystium. Blake Judd, mit all seinen Höhen und Tiefen, zeigt erneut, dass er wie kein anderer Black Metal mit psychedelischer Note prägt. Im Interview gibt er einen ungefilterten Einblick in seine turbulente Vergangenheit und seine Wiederauferstehung als Künstler – schonungslos und intensiv.

LEGACY #153:As I Lay Dying, Parkway Drive and Deathcore Madness: Despite the controversies surrounding Tim Lambesis, who still polarizes after serving time for trying to hire a contract murderer, As I Lay Dying have delivered impressive releases since his return – a compelling reason to dedicate a cover story from a critical perspective to the band. Exclusive interviews with Tim and Phil Sgrosso reveal a band surprisingly solid in 2024 – at least that's how it seemed before reality overtook our cover story and the band structure fell apart at every turn at the end of October. Fact is: It will be exciting to watch the developments to come – just like reading the interviews from a few weeks ago when the sky was still full of violins... or something like that... 

For Parkway Drive, however, everything is in order: a massive tour planned for next year promises a spectacular live show and one of the hottest productions in the scene. An extensive interview with Winston McCall was a must.
These Modern Metal highlights are complemented by a special feature on the rise of Deathcore in recent years. A historical overview, including memories of MySpace, alongside interviews with Fit For An Autopsy, Bleeding Through, Mental Cruelty, and many more, offers readers an in-depth look into this phenomenon.
Of course, there’s also plenty of content from other Extreme Metal genres: Anomalie impress with their new album "Riverchild" and self-irony, while Earthburner channel their raw energy into a provocatively brief 15-minute album. Meanwhile, The Gates Of Slumber return after a long hiatus, unveiling their future plans in an exclusive interview. The darkest touch comes from Schädlich & Söhne (featuring Yantit from Eisregen), whose project brings "Zwangspessimismus" ("purposeful pessimism") to life in a fatalistic story. And we can't forget the three-page co-cover story on avant-garde Black Metal heroes Schammasch.
This edition's soundcheck winner is another controversial figure: Nachtmystium. Blake Judd, with all his highs and lows, once again proves that he shapes Black Metal with a psychedelic twist like no other. In an unfiltered interview, he offers a raw and intense look into his tumultuous past and his artistic rebirth.
